 Warriors triumphed over by Little Manhattan

Little Manhattan netball club claim 27-17 victory against The Warriors on the Gauteng Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Student Tournament hosted at Little Manhattan Student Residence netball courts, on the 25th September 2023, Monday afternoon.

Little Manhattan successfully claim 2 points from the game  which subsequently make them the underdogs of group A. Manhattan wanted to redeem themselves from their last unpleasing defeat against the Pretoria West rivals, West City Netball club.

The match’s first promising attack came in the 3rd minute of the game through the courtesy of Warriors goal scorer, Nqobile Maluka who was awarded the women of the match. Little Manhattan dominated and controlled the first half of the match, securing 9 shots and only converted 8 shots into goals.

Warriors never set back; tables suddenly turned while Manhattan was still in their comfort zone, they started to create many goal scoring opportunities, but the team couldn’t finalize the attack on the final third.

“I think we played well, the team played as we planned and the match was cool, but we had those moments when team were aggressive towards each other but overall, the match was cool and we enjoyed, said Little Manhattan center player, Thembelihle Nxumalo.

After a breathless start to the second period, both sides looked to regain some semblance of composure heading into the final 20 minutes.

The home team continued to dominate the second half, securing an average ball possession of 60% against 40% of Warriors. Both teams started to play aggressively towards each other in the dying minutes of the game.

Little Manhattan is expected to play against the over praised GEM Valley later as their second group A match to possibly advance to the knockout stages of the tournament.
