UWC claim victory against DUT

University of Western Cape (UWC) Ladies FC claimed their
first Varsity Football win against Durban University of Technology (DUT), at
Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) B field, on Saturday afternoon.
UWC Ladies FC moved to the 3rd spot on the group A log standing, as they had never registered a win since the tournament started, losing their first 2023 Varsity football game against the defending champions, University of Johannesburg ladies FC.

The match’s first goal came in the 7th minute of
the game through the courtesy of Chelsea Daniels who was awarded Women of the
Match trophy. The match started in style as the home team dominated the ball
possession and created goal-scoring opportunities.
The Durban side never set back but they were competitive towards the home team as they managed to score before half time. DUT ladies FC created many goal scoring opportunities but couldn’t convert them into goals.
“It’s a hard loss, the girls started off slowly and they
just conceded an early goal and as they tried coming back there wasn’t enough
time, but we are looking forward for the next game,” said Durban University of
Technology FC coach, Coach Siyabonga.

The Western Cape continued to dominate the second half,
securing an average ball possession of 65% against 35% of DUT. University of
Western Cape FC desperately needed to claim 3 points from this game in order to
stand a chance to qualify for the next round.

UWC FC started Varsity Football tournament poor with the
claiming unpleasing results from their last five pre-season game. The team
managed to claim only two wins from the five played. The technical team
continuously support and motivated players throughout the tournament.
The Western Cape will face the TUT FC on their last group A
match on the 13th August 2023 at TUT Stadium. UWC FC needs to claim
3 points on their next match with TUT ladies FC to progress to the knockout
round of the tournament.
